Moor Green 3 Halesowen Town 2

Lady Luck deserted Halesowen once more as another winning position inexplicably slipped from their grasp in the final minutes to make their battle against relegation now look a hopeless cause.

Halesowen belied their bottom placing in an even first-half and went close in the 21st minute when Michael Mason’s cross was back-heeled for James Collins to force a great save from Ross Bate.

However, Derek Hall gave the home side the lead in the 26th minute when he powered home a header from Jamie Petty’s corner with a question mark over Halesowen’s defensive marking. With the home side gaining ascendancy, Richard Crisp sliced the ball off his own line and Andy Quy parried away another shot from Hall.

Halesowen made a storming start to the second period and levelled in the 47th minute with James Ince glancing a near post header home from a Les Hines corner. A minute later, the Yeltz were in front through a superb finish when Hines played a long ball out of defence and Carl Tranter set Collins free to skip to the goal-line before rounding goalkeeper Bate and hitting home as the defence closed in. Halesowen should have made the game safe as they repeatedly broke through the Moor Green defence but Tranter hit his shot at the legs of Bate in the 50th minute. Tireless Dennis Bailey then turned well in the box before firing at Bate and Hines hit a rasping 20-yarder just wide in the 70th minute.

No-one could fault the commitment of the Yeltz, but it all went horribly wrong as Jai Stanley fired the equaliser for Moor Green from the penalty spot in the 81st minute when the referee’s assistant signalled for a dubious infringement in a crowded goalmouth. In injury time, Mason’s goal-bound header hit Bailey but the Moors broke straight down the other end to steal the points when Hall shot past Quy into the bottom corner.
