Dr Martens Premier League - Friday, 6th. October, 2000

Ilkeston Town 1 Halesowen Town 0

Halesowen recorded another blank goal tally and left Ilkeston with nothing to show in a poor contest that seemed destined for stalemate.

An uneventful first-half saw Halesowen goalkeeper Andy Quy tip a Paul Williams corner away in the 6th minute and Ilkeston’s Rob Gould fired high from 20 yards in the 25th minute. Halesowen’s Andy Hodgetts then broke clear of the Ilkeston defence but Andy Love was on hand to save with ease. Ilkeston full-back Gould again fired over when well placed after being set up by Glenn Kirkwood in first-half injury time.

Halesowen forced three early corners in the second half with Jon Ford having the best chance when he headed just over in the 47th minute. However, it was Ilkeston who grabbed an unlikely winner in the 62nd minute when Wayne Lloyd left his back-pass short and despite recovering, the ball ran loose for Gould to slot home from 8 yards. With Halesowen again lacking a cutting edge they were unable to retrieve the situation and 85th minute substitute Stuart Payne was lucky to stay on the field when he made two desperate late challenges.
