Dr Martens Premier Division – Saturday, 16th November, 2002

Halesowen Town 5 Folkestone Invicta 0

Halesowen moved to their highest league position of the season by smashing five past struggling Folkestone.

The Yeltz took a 6th minute lead when Jason Ashby burst through midfield and played a long cross-field ball for Les Hines to hammer home from 15 yards. A minute later Folkestone were at sea again when Kirk Master split the defence and Jason Ashby smashed a 15-yard shot against the post. Ross Collins then screwed just wide and veteran goalkeeper Maurice Munden touched a low drive from Master around the post with the hosts totally dominating with their flowing football.

Super striker Ashby deservedly extended the lead in the 32nd minute when he hit home a right-wing Leroy May cross from 10 yards out.

Folkestone offered little up front all afternoon and in the 69th minute it was Munden who produced a fine fingertip save from Leadbeater. Ross Collins then stole in behind the visiting defence to hit a volley just wide of the mark on 86 minutes.

Folkestone’s defence fell apart in the final three minutes with Halesowen hitting a trio of goals. Ashby latched onto a long ball and notched his eighth goal in his last eight games by calmly rounding goalkeeper Munden before slotting home in the 87th minute. Karl Brennan then laid the ball off for Hines to crash home his second goal into the roof of the net in the final minute and in injury time Ashby surged through the demoralised Folkestone defence allowing Colwell to hit home a fifth goal.
