Southern League Premier Division – Saturday, 8th April 2006

Halesowen Town 4 Northwood 1

Halesowen’s home form continued to improve with another comfortable victory securing sixth spot in the league table and pushing Northwood closer to relegation at a windswept Grove.

The Yeltz made an ideal start by taking a 4th minute lead when Simon FORSDICK nodded home Chris Smith's cross from close range to notch his 12th goal of the season.

Northwood went forward in search of a reply and forced a 9th minute freekick just inches outside the penalty area after Stuart Pierpoint brought down Sam Hatton but captain Wayne Carter’s effort and his rebound strike were both blocked. Daniel Julienne was then denied in the 19th minute and Carter blazed over the bar from 20 yards after a good 21st minute move down the right involving Julienne and Peter Dean.

Halesowen increased the lead after 24 minutes when James Francis laid the ball off for Martin Myers and his cross was turned past his own goalkeeper by unfortunate central defender James SHIPPERLEY. Joe Devera then cleared a clever Forsdick flick off the line after 31 minutes but Halesowen coasted into a 3-0 lead on 35 minutes when FRANCIS was put clear and tapped home into an empty net after rolling his first effort past goalkeeper Rob Bullivant onto the post.

Two minutes later Northwood claimed their consolation goal when slack defending left Gavin HART clear in the penalty area and he calmly beat goalkeeper Dean Coleman.

Northwood failed to make any impression on the deficit in a more subdued second half and in the 55th minute Forsdick’s shot was blocked with Bullivant punching Dave Haywood’s resulting corner clear. Hatton drove wide on 58 minutes but the well beaten visitors were caught out again for Halesowen’s fourth goal in the 63rd minute when Alex Cowley crossed from the right for Chris SMITH to finish with a fine close range volley. Cowley then drove wide on 66 minutes.

Ten minutes from time Coleman saved a shot on the turn from Clark but Halesowen had already gained full revenge for losing 3-0 at Northwood in December in their worst defeat of the season to date.
