Pre-season Friendly – Wednesday, 12th July 2006
Halesowen Town 0 Walsall 4

Richard Money’s men checked out of the first pre-season work-out at the Grove with a comfortable four-goal victory.  But it was a familiar former Southern Premier League forward James Constable, signed for £4,000 from Chippenham Town last season, who caused the damage with a second-half hat-trick.

Mark WRIGHT set Walsall on their way in the 8th minute by nodding home Daniel Fox’s left wing cross. Hector Sam and Martin Butler then fired straight at former Walsall goalkeeper Dean Coleman mid-way through the first period and Coleman beat away a fierce shot from Wright in the 41st minute.

Halesowen new boys Matt Lewis and Sean Dowdall forced corners in the 4th minute and 26th minute respectively and Alex Cowley drove wide after 17 minutes. But as the game progressed, the Yeltz created very little as the visitors benefited from extra fitness after their early start to pre-season training.

The Saddlers galloped into a four-goal lead with an excellent second-half hat-trick from Constable. Coleman was at fault in the 59th minute when he misjudged a high ball and CONSTABLE was allowed to head on past the goalkeeper and convert into the empty net. CONSTABLE then hit home a cracking 67th minute half-volley following a through ball from substitute Scott Dann. Walsall made it 4-0 in the 76th minute when Coleman’s poor throw-out allowed Tony Bedeau – signed after a 10-year stint at Torquay United – to cross for CONSTABLE to tap home his third goal.
