British Gas Business Southern League Premier Division – Saturday, 10th March 2007

Maidenhead United 1 Halesowen Town 0
The Magpies completed the double over Halesowen with a late penalty bagging all three points in a tight game of few chances. With the Yeltz line-up missing several regulars it was always going to prove a difficult afternoon as Maidenhead manager Johnson Hippolyte continued to prove a jinx with his line-up boasting several players from the heart-breaking FA Cup 1st Round defeat at Yeading in November, 2004. Defences ruled the afternoon and the strong wind and uneven surface hardly helped matters in a dull first period, although Grant Cooper made a key challenge to deny the visitors. A stalemate continued to look the most likely outcome in the second-half although the hosts pushed forward to create a couple of half-chances and Halesowen’s disputed free-kick from the left of the penalty area was just too high for three Yeltz players in front of goal. Halesowen then missed the best chance when Paul Devlin dragged his effort wide with only the goalkeeper to beat.
On 83 minutes, Maidenhead were awarded the match-winning penalty when Gary Knight was penalised for a foul just inside the 18-yard area on the fresh legs of Yashwa Romeo and Lee NEWMAN converted from the penalty spot, despite goalkeeper James Dormand guessing the right way. Nick Amos was unlucky not to equalise in the 90th minute when his powerful header beat goalkeeper Chico Ramos but was cleared off the line by Bobby Behzadi and scrambled clear.
