British Gas Business Southern League Premier Division – Tuesday, 3rd October 2006

Rugby Town 4 Halesowen Town 3

Halesowen were cruelly denied a share of the points by a goal from Jason Taylor five minutes into injury time of a seven-goal thriller.

They appear to have salvaged a share of the points with a late equaliser only for Taylor to secure his hat-trick with almost the last kick of the game. Taylor gave Rugby the lead on 17 minutes with a header from Matt Gearing’s cross but Alex Cowley fashioned an equaliser with a long-range drive five minutes later.

Captain Niki Preston then handed Rugby the lead again when he put a corner into his own net midway through the first half. However, Cowley was on hand to pounce on a home defensive error and grab his second leveller just before the break.

Taylor re-instated the hosts’ lead on the hour with another header that seemed to have won it for Rugby. But following some desperate defending from the home side, Cowley played in Sean Dowdall to equalise again two minutes into stoppage time.

Taylor then broke Halesowen hearts at the death when he wriggled through two defenders to slot past Danny Woodhall three minutes later.
