British Gas Business Southern League Premier Division – Tuesday, 14th November 2006

Stamford AFC 2 Halesowen Town 0

Halesowen’s gloomy November continued in their third successive defeat without a goal.

Stamford had slightly the better of the first-half against injury-hit Halesowen but chances generally remained at a premium. Simon Forsdick headed over the Stamford bar in his 100th Southern League game from a Lee Williams free-kick on 28 minutes and visiting goalkeeper Dan Woodhall then saved a 38th minute deflected 20-yard shot from Martin Wormall. Otherwise Stamford were restricted to a couple of long range shots.

The Daniels went ahead three minutes into the second half when a cross from Stuart Wilson was only partly cleared and Martin WORMALL rifled a low, hard shot from 20 yards past Woodhall. The Yeltz showed an improvement but continued to struggle to make meaningful chances and their best effort came after 61 minutes when another Williams free-kick was headed over the bar by Forsdick from within the 6-yard box.
Stamford substitute Jason Turner added a second goal in the 84th minute by breaking down the right and hitting the ball across Woodhall into the net. In the dying moments Matt Lewis curled a free-kick past the Stamford wall but goalkeeper Martin Kearney tipped the ball around the post.
