Halesowen Town 2 Bromsgrove Rovers 1

Halesowen manager Morell Maison celebrated his first win in charge to condemn Bromsgrove - skippered by former Yeltz central defender Gary Knight - without a win in six games.

Stuart Brock suffered an uncomfortable evening in the Bromsgrove goal with question marks over both goals and he dropped the ball in the 2nd minute from Darren Caskey’s corner but Paul Devlin scooped over the ball in the ensuing goalmouth scramble.

But Bromsgrove started like a train and took an early lead when Jamie Petty broke down the left and Jermaine CLARKE met his cross with a diving header. Three minutes later Clarke then turned well to fire at home goalkeeper Mark Osborn.

Dean Brennan’s 10th minute shot was pushed away for a corner before Petty broke free again down the left at the other end but blasted at Osborn. A fierce 16th minute shot from Paul Lloyd was then beaten away by Osborn.

David Perpertuini delivered a 17th minute cross but Brock gathered the glancing header from Eldon Maquemba and Maquemba’s 21st minute shot caught a deflection to earn a corner. Lee Williams hit a half-volley at Brock on the half-hour and then drove at Brock again in the 34th minute on the break. Bromsgrove’s Sam Alsop saw his 38th minute drive tipped over the bar by Osborn.

After their sometimes disjointed opening, the Yeltz levelled seconds before the interval when Caskey’s corner found its way to the far post with Dennis PEARCE claiming a faint final touch after pressurising goalkeeper Brock to lose the ball and notch his first goal of the season. Dean Brennan then drove just past the post in first-half stoppage time.

Three minutes into the second half Clarke almost connected with another diving header from Lloyd’s right-wing cross and a minute later Brock made a good low save from Maquemba.

Halesowen claimed the winning goal in the 50th minute when a long ball from Brennan saw Maquemba beat the offside trap and Brock fluffed his clearance allowing MAQUEMBA the simple task of rolling the ball into an empty net.

With Bromsgrove’s early promise falling away drastically, Perpertuini struck a low drive past the post in the 64th minute. Three minutes later Brock kept out a stinging half-volley from Caskey but Guy Lopez wasn’t strong enough to head home the rebound and on 68 minutes Caskey put Maquemba free to run on again but this time Brock blocked.

A spate of substitutions followed in the dying minutes but Halesowen easily kept control to record their sixth unbeaten league game.
