Halesowen Town 4 Malvern Town 0

Halesowen eased into the next round with three goals in a nine-minute spell at the start of the second half wrapping up the tie.

But Malvern belied their lowly league status in a plucky start as they forced three corners within the first four minutes - although all were easily dealt with. Paul Devlin’s 6th minute corner was then cleared and Devlin then fired a 9th minute free-kick over the bar after Nick Amos was fouled on the edge of the area. As the visitors enjoyed much of the early play, Nick Clayton tested home goalkeeper Chris Jay with a 14th minute long-range shot and Bryan Craven blazed a 21st minute free-kick high over the bar. Clayton then fired straight at Jay three minutes later. With Halesowen gradually asserting their authority, Amos nodded Liam McDonald’s 28th minute cross wide of the post and Nick Wright almost put Devlin through three minutes later.

Halesowen finally took the lead in the 33rd minute when McDONALD curled a direct free-kick into the top corner from the edge of the area. Lewis Skyers then made a good save on 38 minutes when Duane Darby met McDonald’s cross with a delicate flick before the goalkeeper turned away Devlin’s 41st minute effort for a corner.

The Yeltz romped home after taking total control of the second half to put the tie beyond doubt. Nick WRIGHT scored a splendid individual goal in the 58th minute when he picked up Devlin’s lay off just inside his own half and out-sprinted two defenders to burst into the area and slot a wide-angled shot past Lewis Skyers. Jay DENNY made it 3-0 in the 63rd minute by side-footing home Devlin’s cross from close range for his first Halesowen goal after Darby stretched the visiting defence. DEVLIN added the fourth and final goal just three minutes later by firing home low down past Skyers from Darby’s lay-off.

With the game over as a contest, Wright was put through again in the 84th minute but blasted wide with Devlin and Aaron Farrell as better options in the centre and after some good passing movements Denny struck wide on 88 minutes. A minute later substitute Farrell mis-kicked with the Malvern goal at his mercy.
