British Gas Business Football League - Premier Division – Tuesday, 30th October 2007

Banbury United 0 Halesowen Town 0

A dour draw left Halesowen still seeking their first away win of season after another frustrating performance.

Although neither side ever genuinely looked like breaking the deadlock, Halesowen were once again quick out of the traps to control play early on with some neat football. However, a tendency to be over-intricate meant they rarely troubled goalkeeper Andy Wheeler. Lee Williams was just wide in the 6th minute and three minutes later full-back Davion Hamilton burst forward to shoot at Wheeler. Dean Brennan almost navigated a way through in the 18th minute and on 26 minutes Darren Caskey combined with captain Nick Amos to set up Paul Devlin but his shot was blocked. At the other end, Banbury’s Ady Fuller hit a free-kick straight at goalkeeper Mark Osborn on the half hour.

The Yeltz also started the second half well and Fuller was forced to head onto the top of his own crossbar for a 48th minute corner. Brennan hit a long range 51st minute shot well wide and after 54 minutes Stuart Pierpoint couldn’t quite keep down his close range header from Caskey’s free-kick.

Osborn made the best save of the game on the hour by turning the ball away for a corner after a free-kick from Banbury’s Lewis Travers was headed on. A quick break initiated by Pierpoint then set Brennan free and he played the ball on for Caskey to steer his shot wide after 64 minutes. Two minutes later a corner from Travers drifted just past Halesowen’s far post. Late on, the Puritans forced two more corners in their second consecutive scoreless draw but the Yeltz finished on top by winning two corners themselves in the 90th minute with Brennan firing an effort just over the bar.
