British Gas Business Football League - Premier Division – Saturday, 23rd August 2008

Bashley 1 Halesowen Town 3

Halesowen secured their second away win of the week with victory in Hampshire’s New Forest.

The game was delayed by over 30 minutes, as Halesowen got held up in holiday traffic on their way to the ground, but they certainly didn’t hang about once the game kicked off. They took the lead in the 12th minute when Jay DENNY received Aaron Cornwall’s pass inside the penalty area and his shot squirmed under David Elm’s body and into the net.

The Yeltz were let off the hook two minutes later when Charlie Knight’s ferocious shot struck the far post and went narrowly wide with goalkeeper Nick Bussey beaten. The game was held up even more when Bashley goalkeeper Elm picked up a knee injury following a collision with Justin Rowe which resulted in a further 5 minute delay. The Yeltz looked to test substitute keeper Steve Hollick immediately, but Rowe and Cornwall both fired efforts wide from excellent positions.

Bashley made a bright start to the second half and Matt Finlay forced Bussey into a fine one- handed save, whilst Aidan Sainsbury’s corner clipped the top of the cross bar.

Against the run of play, Halesowen doubled their lead when ROWE showed tremendous strength to turn Bashley defender Gary Middleton and clinically found the net after 61 minutes with Hollick well beaten after Dean Brennan cleverly allowed the ball through.

Rowe then turned provider for Halesowen’s third goal on 72 minutes when he slid the ball through to substitute Mark DANKS who calmly slotted home from close range. Bashley briefly threatened a comeback on 78 minutes when the Yeltz defence failed to clear a corner and Joe FISHER bundled the ball home off defender Tom Kemp. Halesowen comfortably saw the game out despite suffering a couple of late scares and their clinical finishing over the course of the game bodes well for a renewed promotion push in the long months ahead.
