F.A. Cup 1st Qualifying Round Replay – Tuesday, 16th September 2008

Halesowen Town 8 Meir KA 1

Halesowen made amends for Saturday’s draw with an emphatic 8-1 replay victory over Midland Combination Meir KA and now meet Blue Square North Gainsborough Trinity in the next qualifying round.

Mark Philcock took the first corner of the game for the visitors in the 2nd minute and 5th minute indecision between goalkeeper James Russell and Tom Bryant almost let in Andy Teague - playing at centre-forward instead of Saturday’s goal-scorer Ryan Miszkiel, who was on holiday in Cyprus.

But it was Meir goalkeeper Richard Amison who again caught the eye to be in superb form and he touched Justin Rowe’s 5th minute header away. Jermaine Palmer was crowded out in front of goal after 7 minutes and an 11th minute volley from Jay Denny brought out another miraculous save from Amison.

The floodgates started to open in the 12th minute when Amison was finally beaten as Justin ROWE turned well to fire home from the edge of the area, despite Amison finger-tipping the ball. Two further Halesowen corners followed before PALMER made it 2-0 in the 15th minute by side-footing home after a neat interchange with Aaron Cornwall. ROWE then put the ball past the post after 17 minutes and Andy Teague flashed an effort just wide at the other end in the 22nd minute.

DENNY notched his first goal with an excellent strike following a good passage of play after 23 minutes but the Kings pulled a goal back to make it 3-1 in the 25th minute when Yeltz central defender Tom BRYANT slammed the ball into his own net after Nathan Chin-Shaw set Russell Gibbons free to cross from the left. Darren Caskey picked his spot to strike the post from 18 yards on 28 minutes and Denny’s 32nd minute shot was deflected over the bar by Darren Reaney with Palmer heading wide from the resulting corner.

The Yeltz struck their fourth goal when PALMER rolled home from the penalty spot in the 34th minute after Rowe was brought down by Darren Reaney. Two minutes later DENNY slotted home his second goal to make it 5-1 after Cornwall took the ball forward with Alex Cowley overlapping. Amison made a good save from Rowe’s 40th minute header but couldn’t keep out a diving header from team-mate Stuart CLEGG, with the own-goal making the score 6-1 at half-time.

The start of the second period saw Rowe head Palmer’s cross over the bar and Caskey touched a free-kick for Cornwall but his shot was blocked for the first of three corners. ROWE added his seventh of the season and the seventh goal of the game on 59 minutes with a low shot just inside the Amison’s post from Cowley’s pass.

Daryl Taylor put Cowley’s 68th minute cross over the bar and a rare 72nd minute Meir break saw Nathan Chin-Shaw burst down the right to cross but Teague’s shot was blocked for a corner. Home substitute Mark Danks fired over the bar after 76 minutes and Bryant’s free header was well saved by Amison from Caskey’s free-kick three minutes later.

DENNY completed his hat-trick and the evening’s scoring by following up after Amison made a terrific save to keep out Denny’s first shot after 83 minutes. There was still time for Amison to make two further splendid saves to deny substitutes Danks and then Allward with two minutes remaining.
