Worcestershire Senior Cup Semi-Final – Tuesday, 17th February 2009

Evesham United 4 Halesowen Town 0

The Worcestershire Senior Cup semi-final was all over as a contest within 14 minutes as Evesham romped into a 3-0 lead.

Hapless Halesowen started with only ten men and played throughout with an empty substitute’s bench. By the time Rueben Max-Grant arrived to make the number up to eleven, the Yeltz had already fallen behind to a 1st minute goal when Anthony ROBINSON lashed a ball from the right into the roof of the net.

The Robins went 2-0 ahead on 9 minutes when Steve Luckett played a one-two with Danny Scheppel and his cross was swept into the net by Kevin SLACK. The horrid start continued when ROBINSON then turned to clip the ball over goalkeeper Nick Bussey in the 14th minute.

The Yeltz squad continued to look unfamiliar and uncomfortable with senior players Jay Denny and Darren Caskey forced to form an unusual central defensive partnership. Slack struck the side-netting on the half-hour before Jean-Black Ngody struck just wide for Halesowen after 32 minutes. Joe Clarke drive just past the post from 30 yards in the 57th minute and Robinson then slammed home what he thought was his hat-trick goal - but was ruled offside - with Evesham hungry for more goals in the second-half.

SLACK finally netted his second goal to complete an easy 4-0 victory after running fully 40 yards through the visiting defence before beating Bussey.

Late on, Aaron Cornwall’s shot was turned onto the side-netting by former Yeltz goalkeeper Nathan Vaughan with Ngody heading the resulting corner high. Max-Grant then headed weakly onto the top of the net to end Halesowen’s sorry show.
