Farnborough 1 Halesowen Town 1

Halesowen Town continued their pursuit of the play offs by gaining a hard earned point at league leaders Farnborough.

The Yeltz made the worst possible start to the game as they fell behind as early as the 2nd minute. Farnborough's lively striker Mark Gamble went on a mazy run and crossed to Michael CHARLES, who scored the winner at the Grove when the sides met back in November, to score from close range.

Farnborough nearly doubled their lead 6 minutes later when another run and cross from Gamble, who capitalised on a Kameron Abassi error, fell to Stefan Bailey who's shot struck the crossbar with Nick Bussey well beaten. On 13 minutes, Halesowen managed to conjure a rare attack on the Farnborough goal, when debutant right back Gary Choi ventured forward into the Farnborough penalty area, but saw his shot acrobatically saved by Richard Barnard.

Farnborough continued to create chances and Bussey saved well to deny Adam Wilde when clean through on goal and Gamble dragged another effort wide after another mazy run.

With the home side temporarily down to 10 men with Charles off the pitch receiving treatment, Bailey saw another shot gathered at the 2nd attempt by Bussey. It soon became clear Charles was unable to continue and his replacement Ramon Calliste managed to evade the Yeltz defence on 35 minutes, but again Bussey was equal to the shot to deny the striker.

Things got worse for Halesowen when captain Darren Caskey twisted his left knee on 36 minutes after trying to make a tackle and was eventually replaced by Davion Hamilton. Farnborough remained in the ascendancy at the start of the second half and Halesowen were again grateful to Bussey who made a great save with his legs to deny Gamble on 52 minutes, who earlier in the half had a goal disallowed following a mad goalmouth scramble.

Amazingly, against the run of play Halesowen equalised on the hour mark when Aaron Cornwall's cross fell to another debutant Fabian Brown who saw his shot brilliantly saved by Barnard, but the rebound fell to Richard SHITTU who blasted home the rebound with his 1st touch of the game after coming on as a substitute. The Yeltz were nearly in dreamland four minutes later when Shittu just failed to connect with Cornwall's brilliant free kick and the ball whistled agonisingly wide.

Farnborough continued to create chances and Calliste had two great chances to win it for the home side. His first shot was again superbly saved by Bussey on 67 minutes and 3 minutes later, he toe poked the ball over the bar from close range.

Halesowen though had the chance to win the match on 81 minutes when Cornwall received Jack Allwards's pass 20 yards from goal, but his rasping shot was brilliantly saved by Barnard. Halesowen had to soak up late Farnborough pressure and in injury time Adam Doyle saw his shot deflected into the side netting and the Yeltz held on to a precious point which kept them firmly in play off picture.
