Tiverton Town 3 Halesowen Town 0

Halesowen’s rapidly fading play-off dreams suffered another blow with a 3-0 defeat at Tiverton leaving the weakened visitors without a point or a goal in three games.

After making the long trip to Devon on the back of Saturday’s 5-0 drubbing at the hands of Corby Town, the Yeltz did well to start the encounter at Ladysmead as the better side. But from the moment Arran PUGH rose highest in the penalty area to send a booming 29th minute header past Nick Bussey, the Yeltz never looked like they had the cutting edge to get back in the game.

Tiverton’s opening goal was the culmination of a good spell of pressure and the Yellows would have been well out of sight by the half-time interval were it not for a string of saves from the over-exposed Bussey, who twice denied Paul Jarvis as well as Bobby Hopkinson.

But Bussey undid all his good work 16 minutes after the interval, when a hopeful punt into the box from Tom GARDNER comically bounced over his head and across the line to make it 2-0.

Halesowen’s best chance had earlier come on half-time, when a woeful mistake from Mike Booth presented James Johnson with a clear run on goal. Yet the Yellows breathed a sigh of relief when Johnson’s finishing proved to be equally terrible and he blazed wastefully into the terrace from 15 yards.

After conceding the second goal, the fight went out of the Yeltz, who failed to create a further realistic chance. It was therefore no surprise when Tom KNIGHTON rounded off the night for Tiverton five minutes from time, when he ran on to Jarvis’ long ball and slotted past the advancing Bussey.
