Halesowen Town 3 Bashley 2

Halesowen staged a fabulous late turnaround to claim all three points with two goals in the last two minutes, leaving promotion hopefuls Bashley stunned by substitute Henry Eze’s 90th minute winner.

In the first minute home captain Jay Denny struck at goalkeeper David Elm from 20 yards and Bashley’s Mark Gamble ballooned over the Halesowen bar. Scott Rickards then played a 5th minute ball through to Stefan Moore, forcing Elm to make a fine save with his legs.

But visiting skipper David ALLEN led by example to put Bashley ahead in the 8th minute after the ball was played in from the left and he swivelled near the penalty spot to strike a low drive into the bottom corner beyond Nick Bussey. Gamble then just failed to connect in front of goal in the 16th minute.

Jimmy Turner’s 18th minute half-volley was tipped away under the crossbar for a corner by Elm and home goalkeeper Bussey made a smart save a minute later as Gamble was played in by Justin Keeler. A 24th minute drive from Rickards was then collected by Elm.

Goal-machine MOORE equalised for Halesowen in the 33rd minute by squeezing the ball past Elm from 12 yards despite the attention of two defenders. Before the interval Alex Cowley made a crucial goalmouth challenge on Charles Knight but minutes later he was just unable to control a deep cross from Stephan Morley in front of the Bashley goal. At the start of the second-half Moore’s low shot was saved by Elm.

Bussey saved the Yeltz in the 50th minute with a terrific triple save keeping out Keeler in the clear and then denying Gamble from the rebound. Gamble then headed Chris Ferrett’s 56th minute free-kick over the bar.

In end-to-end action, Rickards went mightily close when his 59th minute free-kick on the edge of the penalty area was touched onto the outside of the post for a corner by Elm, following a foul on sprightly Aaron Griffiths.

Bash regained their vital lead after 66 minutes when midfielder Chris KNOWLES emerged through a crowd of players to head down Ferrett’s corner into the net from close range. Bussey then made another good save to stop Gamble in the 75th minute with Knowles planting the rebound wide.

All looked lost for Halesowen when Jay Denny’s shot unluckily struck the underside of the Bashley crossbar and Liam Daly’s header from the rebound was hacked clear with six minutes remaining before the incredible late twist.

As the Yeltz finished strongly, MOORE stroked home his 37th goal of the season from the penalty spot after a cross from Rickards struck the arm of Knight in the 89th minute.

Halesowen had the last word leaving Bashley reeling as crowd-favourite EZE started and finished the winning 90th minute goal by surging forward and then powerfully heading home a rebound after Elm made a good save from Rickards.

With Bashley’s play-off hopes dented after falling victim to a last minute winner for the second time in three days, passions rose and there was a mini-skirmish of players together with frustrations around the visiting dug-out in injury time.
