Zamaretto League Premier Division – Saturday, 17th April 2010

Tiverton Town 0 Halesowen Town 2

Henry Eze’s thunderbolt drive set Halesowen on their way to sweeping aside relegation-haunted Tiverton in a well deserved 20th league victory. The first win in seven attempts at Ladysmead maintained an incredible run of form and notched a fourth straight win for the Yeltz.

The day belonged to crowd-favourite Eze in the Devon sunshine and he turned well early on but blazed over the bar before Jay Denny’s shot was blocked for a 13th minute corner. Home goalkeeper Steve Book then dived at the feet of Stephan Morley in front of goal two minutes later. Nick Bussey made a smart save from Joe Bushin after 19 minutes and in the 24th minute Denny crossed along the Tivvy goal following a fine ball out to the wing from Lee Fowler. In the 29th minute Liam Head chipped over Liam Daly and squared the ball for Bushin to balloon over the Halesowen bar.

EZE smashed Halesowen ahead with his unstoppable 31st minute rocket on the half-volley from fully ten yards outside the penalty area leaving Book helpless after Morley teed up the ball. Five minutes before the half-time interval Sam Gaughran headed a free-kick from Scott Rickards just over the bar.

Eze struck another effort into the ground and wide of the mark at the start of the second half. Bushin netted for the home side in the 56th minute but was ruled offside after the ball broke following Bussey’s save from Dave Wilkes and Stefan Moore limped out of the game with a hamstring injury whilst shooting at Book in the 70th minute.

But the Yeltz remained in control and substitute Lee OSBORNE made it 2-0 by steering home a right-wing cross from Rickards into the top corner after 83 minutes from close range to register his first Halesowen goal.

It was not Tivvy’s day and their best chance had to wait until the final minute when substitute Richard Pears volleyed inches over the bar. In injury time, Osborne was fed by Eze but this time was denied by Book’s save.
