Zamaretto League Premier Division – Saturday, 2nd October 2010

Halesowen Town 0 Tiverton Town 1

Halesowen’s alarming slide down the league table continued with a fifth straight defeat after being beaten at home by ten men for the second successive Saturday.

But the eager Yeltz youngsters played with plenty of endeavour and created their best chance of the afternoon after only 15 seconds. Lee Osborne burst forward straight from the kick-off and shrugged off the last defender, only to see his drive rebound off the base of the post with goalkeeper Ryan Draper beaten.

For Tiverton, Adam Mortimer skied over the bar when free after 17 minutes and Alex Faux hit a low shot wide a minute later. Visiting goalkeeper Draper was in action again when he collected a deep cross from debut full-back James Williams and was well placed to collect a fierce 25-yard drive from Anthony Bruce. Draper then reacted quickly to collect Craig Connor’s free-kick after half an hour.

Tiverton made their cause more difficult by being reduced to ten men when Alex Faux was shown a straight red card three minutes before the interval. Connor Gater had burst through from midfield and fed Ruben Izquierdo and although over 20 yards from goal, the referee deemed it a goal scoring opportunity when Izquierdo was pulled down by the Tiverton full-back. Izquierdo blazed the resulting free-kick well over the bar.

But for the third home game this season, the Yeltz were unable to capitalise by failing to score against ten men during the second period.

Draper saved in front of Osborne from half-time substitute David Burtoft’s cross in the 51st minute. Osborne then forced a 64th minute corner and at the other end home goalkeeper Dean Coleman gathered a long, low drive from Ian Sampson. Daryl Taylor then struck a 78th minute free-kick at Draper.

Tivvy snatched their vital winner in the 79th minute when a clever back-heel from substitute Jamie Hatch set Mortimer free down the left and he crossed for SAMPSON to hook home. A minute later the visitors went mightily close to doubling their lead when Kevin Hill rattled the crossbar with a stinging 20-yard drive.

Halesowen forced two late corners in front of the sparse crowd but were unable to break down the Tiverton defence in five minutes of stoppage time as the visitors held on for their first league away win of the season.
