Zamaretto League Premier Division – Saturday, 13th November 2010

Halesowen Town 0 Bashley 2

Tony Thorpe and Shaun Cunnington took over the Yeltz managerial reins but were unable to prevent their threadbare squad being beaten by two seconds half goals from in-form Bashley.  Charismatic keeper Nick Bussey made his return to the Grove and player-manager Thorpe was forced to play 90 minutes wearing the number 6 shirt with Halesowen filling just two places on the substitute’s bench. Dallas Moore made his return from injury and took over as skipper after the departure of previous club captain Craig Connor.

Joe Collins just failed to meet a 6th minute back header from David Allen and Bussey was in early action to collect from visiting captain Chris Knowles. Collins then planted an 11th minute direct free-kick over the home bar.

For Halesowen, Thorpe went close by poking wide in the 13th minute after beating the offside trap and a 19th minute effort from Lee Osborne drifted just wide. At the other end Bussey did well to gather another Knowles drive low down after 32 minutes.

Just before the break, Ruben Izquierdo glanced a header wide following a free-kick and a loud appeal for a penalty was turned down when goalkeeper David Elm challenged Michael McGrath as Halesowen held their own in the first period. At the start of the second half Elm raced out to clear from Izquierdo and the same player then drove a 25-yard shot into the arms of Elm.

The Bash took the lead in the 54th minute when Tom Hill’s cross was headed over his own bar by Moore and Luke WHITLEY headed home directly beyond Bussey from Ryan Hill’s resulting corner.

But busy Bussey then did well to turn a fierce drive from Tom Hill into the side-netting after 61 minutes and full-back Connor Gater cleared off the line at the foot of the post from another Whitley free-header five minutes later. A lightning Bashley break forced a 70th minute corner and David Allen curled just high two minutes later.

However, there was no lack of effort from the hosts and the Yeltz almost found their way back into the game after 77 minutes when Elm made a splendid fingertip save to turn Anthony Bruce’s free-kick from the edge of the area over his bar.

But Bashley always looked the most likely to net again with Bussey blocking Tom Hill’s shot and captain KNOWLES duly doubled their lead by touching home Mike Spinney’s shot from close range two minutes from full-time to extend Bashley’s unbeaten league sequence to six games.
