Pre-season Friendly – Saturday, 7th August 2010
Halesowen Town 2 Redditch United 2
Halesowen had to settle for draw after a promising 2-0 lead was pegged back by two late goals from their Blue Square North visitors Redditch United.  The friendly was the first outing at The Grove for the new-look Yeltz under the watchful eye of new Technical Director Phil Nardiello in a keenly contested game. Redditch centre-forward Marco Addagio hit the first real chance over the Halesowen bar in the 15th minute.
Halesowen then took control and gained the lead in the 17th minute when England under-18 schoolboy Connor Gater played a delightful through ball for Craig CONNOR to plant a lob over ex-Worcester City goalkeeper Jake Meredith. Redditch’s Kevin Spencer, previously on loan at the Grove, was invited to leave the field following an over-enthusiastic challenge on Gater before Michael Nardiello troubled the visitors again by firing just past the foot of the post in the 35th minute.
Home goalkeeper Dean Coleman made a splendid 40th minute save on his return to the Grove to turn the ball onto the post from Addagio’s half volley with Robbie Thompson-Brown inexplicably putting the rebound wide with the goal at his mercy.
At the start of the second period, good work from home substitute Reuben Izquiedo led to David Stone shooting just over the bar. Halesowen doubled their lead in the 70th minute, when Stone’ s excellent footwork posed problems down the left and his cross was met at the far post by substitute Nathan SMITH supplying the final touch into the roof of the net from close range, under pressure from his defender.
But after several home substitutions, Redditch fought back allowing their management-duo and former Yeltz favourites Matt Gardiner and John Snape to leave with an unlikely draw. ADDAGIO pulled the first goal back after 74 minutes by flicking home a right wing cross from Dexter Ravenhill. With four minutes remaining, the home defence was caught out when Ravenhill’s 25-yard free-kick allowed Joe HULL a simple tap-in to level the scoreline at 2-2.
