Halesowen Town 3 Hednesford Town 2

Halesowen continue their winning start to pre season with a well fought victory against Northern Premier League Side Hednesford Town.  Goals from Nathan Jackson, Nathan Smith and Mark Smith were enough to give The Yeltz a 3-2 in front of a decent Yeltz crowd.

The Yeltz took the lead in the 11th minute when new signing Nathan JACKSON struck an impressive long range but speculative effort from over 25 yards to beat stand-in Hednesford goalkeeper Sean Hayes before Danny QUINN equalised for the Pitmen after 20 minutes. Nick Wellecomme then flashed a 37th minute effort wide for the Northern Premier side and Quinn was denied by new Halesowen goalkeeper Paul Evans a minute later. Darren Campion flashed a shot wide with 45 minutes on the clock and Cheyyenne Dunkley headed over the Halesowen bar early in the second period.

However, Halesowen regained their lead after an hour when Nathan Coward’s shot struck the post and Nathan SMITH was on hand to convert the rebound. Hednesford levelled for the second time when Chris CLEMENTS converted a 70th minute penalty after substitute Mark Danks was brought down.
But a fit-looking Halesowen outfit made it 3-2 in the 81st minute with the best move of the evening when Keenan Meakin-Richards’ free-kick was headed on by Chris Godwin and Coward then turned the ball across goal for Mark SMITH to tap home the winning goal. With two minutes remaining Andrew Westwood hit another good Halesowen chance over the bar as the hosts deservedly turned the tables on Hednesford’s big win in the final game of last season at the Grove.
