Evo-Stik League Southern Division One South and West – Saturday, 21st January 2012
Halesowen Town 1 Paulton Rovers 2
Ben Haseley marked his home debut with his second goal in two games, but a missed penalty late in the first half proved costly for Halesowen as third-placed Paulton mounted a second half fight-back to grab all three points.

Early on, Brendan Kelly fired a 20-yard free-kick at Paulton goalkeeper Kyle Phillips and Dan Cleverley struck past the post for the visitors. The Rovers created their only real chance of the first half in the 12th minute but James Billing screwed a rebound wide of an empty net after home goalkeeper Louis Connor parried Ben Lacey’s shot.
The visitors escaped a minute later when Nathan Jackson’s flick was met by Nathan Jones but his close range header struck the underside of the crossbar and the ball was eventually scrambled clear.
The Yeltz took the lead after 22 minutes when Jones latched onto a poor clearance from goalkeeper Phillips and put HASELEY clear to finish well by poking past Phillips. Andrew Westwood then burst forward from midfield and laid the ball off to Jackson , but he could only fire weakly at Phillips.
Halesowen squandered a golden chance to increase the lead with the award of a 33rd minute penalty after Jones fed Haseley again and Haseley made a fine 180 degree turn in the area to put himself clear on goal, only to be brought down by Ollie Price. Jones took the spot-kick but Phillips dived to his left to keep the ball out and Price escaped with just a yellow card.
The miss proved to be a pivotal moment as Halesowen posed little further danger and the visitors recovered to strike two second half goals.
Unmarked PRICE stooped to head home the equaliser at the far post in the 50th minute from Craig Loxton’s corner – awarded after goalkeeper Connor was judged to have taken a high ball just out of play. Two minutes later Connor pushed away a shot from Lacey and Billing missed another good chance by scooping a half volley over the Halesowen bar in the 63rd minute following a break down the right by Lacey. For Halesowen, Haseley made a fine run forward from his own half in the 68th minute before finally being crowded out in the penalty area and Jackson fired a long range shot past the post after 76 minutes.
Captain CLEVERLEY secured Paulton’s victory by picking up a loose ball in the 81st minute and unleashing a tremendous 25 yard shot to beat Connor with the help of a deflection. Halesowen were unable to respond and slumped to a fifth consecutive defeat, although Michael McGrath hit a free-kick past the post in the fourth minute of injury time.
