Evo-Stik League Southern Division One South and West – Saturday, 17th March 2012

Halesowen Town 1 Gosport Borough 3
Richard Huckfield became the latest Halesowen Town player to see red as they crashed at home to Gosport Borough.  The defender was given his marching orders seven minutes before the break when he picked up his second booking for hauling down visiting striker Daniel Wooden.

By then the Yeltz were already trailing thanks to Gosport skipper Brett Poate's powerfully drilled 17th minute free-kick which game home keeper Paul Evans no chance.
Evans was alert to save from Justin Bennett less than a minute later and prevent the visitors doubling the lead.
His opposite number, Nathan Ashmore, was not forced into a notable save in the first period.

Marcus Jackson Halesowen Town Marcus Jackson looked to be clean through on goal following Brendan Kelly’s incisive pass but trod on the ball at the vital moment. Ben Haseley missed the home side’s best chance of the first half when he fired over from just inside the box.
A man down, the Yeltz came under pressure at the start of the second period. Evans did well to block from Adam Wilde and also denied Bennett again following an acrobatic attempt by the visiting striker.
But the hosts appeared to have weathered the storm and were starting to exert some pressure of their own, before gifting the visitors a second. Michael McGrath’s pass across the face of his own box was cut out by Wooden, who stayed calm to feed Bennett for the simplest of finishes.
Evans almost handed another goal to substitute Liam Sewell after his goal-kick was charged down but cleared the danger. Shortly afterward he denied Bennett a second with a fine save.

Gosport Borough Slide TackleThe introduction of Andrew Westwood and Reece Cotterill gave the Yeltz some much needed impetus. Ashmore was tested for the first time when he saved low down from Haseley, while he also denied Cotterill.
With eight minutes to go the Yeltz were handed a lifeline when Lee Molyneaux pulled back sub Reece Cotterill in the box and Haseley converted from the spot.
But hopes of a dramatic comeback were short-lived as Bennett set up Sewell for a close range finish which secured the points for Gosport.
