Evo-Stik League Southern Division One South and West – Saturday, 7 April 2012

Halesowen Town 1 Hungerford Town 3

Halesowen fell to another home defeat after play-off certainties Hungerford hit two late goals to complete the double against the Yeltz.

Halesowen Town Celebrate Brendan Kelly's Goal

In a quiet first half, Halesowen’s Marcus Jackson was presented with a good chance from Andrew Westwood’s misdirected effort within the first minute but drilled wide. Ben Haseley then almost weaved through in the 13th minute and a deflected effort from Marcus Jackson was gratefully collected by goalkeeper Chay Morris a minute later.

Hungerford’s Harry Goodger stretched to head just wide from Diak John’s 16th minute cross before the visitors took the lead after 29 minutes with a crisp 15 yard finish from Reece FLEET down the centre of goal after the home defence failed to clear Mark Draycott’s header. With the Crusaders in control before the interval, across from Draycott was collected by home goalkeeper Paul Evans and Goodger nodded another John cross just wide.

The Yeltz started the second half much more brightly as Ben Haseley cut in to fire at goalkeeper Morris in the 46th minute. Brendan KELLY then powered home Halesowen’s 49th minute equaliser with forceful direct free-kick from the edge of the penaltyarea after Haseley was pulled back by visiting captain Jon Boardman. Goalkeeper Morris managed to get his hands to Kelly’s shot but could not prevent the stinging drive hitting the back of the net.

Assistant manager Paul Tomlinson was sent from the dugout after an hour and striker Haseley continued to plough a lonely furrow up front to make a superb 66th minute run through the Hungerford defence before being driven wide.

As Hungerford finished strongly, captain Boardman’s header was ruled out for offside in the 68th minuteand Peter Folkes cleared another Boardman effort off the line three minutes later.

Paul Evans Save

But the visitors did enough to finally wrap up the points with two further late strikes. Substitute Joe McCLELLAN followed up to make it 2-1 in the 76th minute after home goalkeeper Evans parried away Fleet’s initial shot. With two minutes remaining, GOODGER added Hungerford’s third goal from close range after Evans had kept out shots from both McClellan and Boardman.
