Halesowen Town 1 Mickleover Sports 1
Halesowen dominated for much of the game but were denied a third consecutive victory after Mickleover equalised in a late rally. Prior to the game a one-minute silence was observed in remembrance of long-term supporter Peter Westwood.
Lively Aaron Daniels caught the visiting defence cold down the centre after just seven minutes but his final shot was saved by goalkeeper Joshua O'Brien. Danny Bragoli's 11th minute free-kick then caused danger in the opposition rearguard and Keyon Refell's shot was charged down in the good spell of pressure. A 14th minute free-kick from Reece Hales was pushed around the post by O'Brien and busy O'Brien was in action again when he raced out to head clear and thwart Daniels yet again after 23 minutes.Reffell met Bragoli's free-kick with a header two minutes later, only for O'Brien to pluck the ball from the air, as the Yeltz continued to have much the better of the first half against out-of-form Mickleover.
Mickleover's only real first half threat came when a 26th minute snapshot from John McGrath was tipped away for a corner by home goalkeeper Dan Platt.
Halesowen finally took a deserved lead in the 36th minute when Hales used his strength to take control and played a superb defence-splitting pass into the penalty area for DANIELS to tuck the ball past O'Brien. Two minutes later a corner from Aaron Griffiths fell to Kyle Morrison on the edge of the area and his shot bobbled towards goal through a crowd of players before O'Brien was just able to react and save the day on his goal-line.
Front-runners Daniels and Reffell continued to cause huge trouble for the Mickleover defence early in the second half and both had chances to claim a vital yet elusive second goal. Soon after O'Brien survived making a horribly sliced clearance in the 51st minute, Reffell made a fine 55th minute run forward, only to be let down by his final shot and a 61st minute effort from Daniels was also deflected just wide. Bragoli then fired over the bar after 68 minutes after more good combination work from Daniels and Reffell.
But following a series of substitutions, Mickleover finished the game strongly with Platt making an excellent save from substitute Allesandro Del Genio. From the resulting 81st minute corner, Andy DALES levelled the scoreline by blasting home down the centre of goal through a crowded penalty area. Increasingly confident Sports almost snatched a late winner but Platt saved from substitute Anthony O'Neil-Dwyer in the 85th minute before the same player drove wide in the final minute after picking up a long clearance.
