FA Cup 3rd Qualifying Round - Saturday, 1st October 2016
Halesowen Town 1 Nantwich Town 1
Halesowen must try again in Tuesday night's all Northern Premier replay after Kaiman Anderson's eighth goal in games was cancelled out by Nantwich's late deflected equaliser, writes David Johnson.
The atmosphere was raised by the presence of the Emirates FA Cup - despite the dampening effect of the torrential rain - although the result probably provided little surprise with both sides boasting long unbeaten runs in a game of few chances.
Nantwich dominated the first half in terms of possession as Halesowen seemed content to sit back and absorb the Dabbers' approach play. In a neat 6th minute move, Ibou Tourny crossed from the left for Ryan Brooke to clip just wide and Matt Bell then looped an 8th minute header over the home bar. In further good play, Sean Cooke's 12th minute shot was hacked clear and Cooke then whipped across a dangerous 25th minute free-kick with the Dabbers starting convincingly on top.
Halesowen's first attempt was a 36th minute low, skidding shot from Richard Sho-Silva, but goalkeeper Dave Parton easily collected. The Yeltz then made a tactical change by introducing Ethan Delaney to bolster the front-line in the 38th minute and Delaney was soon in action when his low 25 yard shot was gathered at the post by Parton in Halesowen's first effort on target. The improvement continued after the interval and Delaney's 54th minute effort fell behind goal from a Kyle Haynes cross.
The Yeltz gained the upper hand in the 62nd minute with Anderson notching his ninth goal of the season in his first real sight on goal after substitute James Hancocks collected in midfield and threaded the ball through the centre for ANDERSON to slot confidently past goalkeeper Parton.
A 71st minute free-kick from Kyle Haynes then caused danger with substitute George Cleet glancing a header towards goal and Haynes returning the loose ball just over the bar.
But the visitors remain unbeaten away from home and stuck to their task to finish strongly with Sean Cooke's 75th minute free-kick turned over the bar by home goalkeeper Platt. The Dabbers then drew level in the 76th minute when the ball fell for Sam Hall on the edge of the area after Cooke's shot was blocked and Hall's shot deflected off substitute Josh HANCOCK to loop over stranded goalkeeper Platt. In injury time Nantwich almost nicked the game when Theo Stair curled just wide of Platt's upright.
